BCARE appoints Ramón Ugarte as new Managing Director to lead its next stage of growth

  • The executive brings extensive experience in energy storage, business development and internationalisation.
  • He joins BCARE at a time of technological consolidation and company expansion.

(Vitoria-Gasteiz, 22 September 2026)

BCARE, the first spin-off from CIC energiGUNE and a leading provider of value-added services for the energy storage industry, has appointed Ramón Ugarte as its new Managing Director, with the aim of accelerating its growth, strengthening its market positioning and expanding the reach of its solutions and services for the energy storage industry.

Ugarte has extensive experience in the energy and industrial sectors, particularly in energy storage. Before joining BCARE, he spent more than eight years at CEGASA Energía, where he served as Sales Director from 2020, leading business development for lithium-ion energy storage solutions for renewable energy, commercial and industrial applications. He previously held positions of responsibility in business development and product management at CEGASA, DUTT, part of the Pasaban Group, and IKOR, building a strong international track record and an in-depth understanding of technology and industrial markets.

“BCARE brings together technological expertise, engineering capabilities and growing experience in industrial projects. My goal is to turn that potential into sustainable growth: developing new business opportunities, strengthening long-term relationships with customers and partners, and taking our solutions into new markets and applications, both in Spain and internationally”, said Ramón Ugarte.

His appointment comes at a stage of evolution and maturity for BCARE. The company has expanded its offering from consultancy, testing and diagnostics to cover the battery life cycle comprehensively: technology selection and assessment, characterisation and degradation analysis, systems engineering and integration, BMS development and advanced models, pre-series and battery pack manufacturing, and monitoring and diagnostic solutions.

This positioning has also received recognition from industry. In 2024, Iberdrola España presented BCARE with its Supplier of the Year Award in the Energy Transition category, recognising its innovative proposition and commitment to the projects in which it collaborates. In particular, Iberdrola highlighted BCARE’s availability, rapid response and ability to deliver products on time and to the required quality standards. BCARE’s technological evolution is especially evident in its latest developments. In ASTRA-CC, a HAZITEK 2023-2025 project led by i-DE, part of the Iberdrola Group, BASQUEVOLT and BCARE developed and integrated solid-state cells into a functional module for stationary applications. This collaboration strengthens the positioning of the Basque solid-state battery ecosystem at European level.

The company also has an increasingly diversified technological and industrial track record: it has developed monitoring and diagnostic systems for smart-grid batteries, quality-control procedures for BESS systems, and has worked in telecommunications and light electromobility. It also participates in European projects on Ni-Zn technologies (LOLABAT) and sodium batteries (MUSIC). This combination of industrialisation, digitalisation and new chemistries strengthens its ability to address critical infrastructure, advanced stationary storage and other emerging markets.

With this appointment, BCARE aims to drive a new phase focused on commercial growth, diversification of products and services, and the industrialisation and internationalisation of its solutions, while maintaining technological innovation as one of the company’s main pillars.
