Development of SoX algorithms for nickel-zinc batteries.

Client category

LOLABAT European Project, “LOng LAsting BATteries”

Purpose

Development of SoX algorithms for nickel-zinc batteries.

Key actions

The LOLABAT project (Horizon 2020) aims to boost the development of Nickel-Zinc (Ni-Zn) technology applied to next-generation batteries and position Europe as a global benchmark in the production of high-performance, sustainable and price-competitive batteries through Ni-Zn technology. Through the Consortium formed by 17 companies from 7 countries, stationary energy storage requirements are addressed by developing Ni-Zn with a lifetime of 4,000 cycles for 6 use cases in utility grids and industrial sites.
BCARE is responsible for developing the state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) diagnostic models for integration into the battery management system. In addition, it provides support in other phases of the project such as the analysis of the electrochemical characteristics of Ni-Zn batteries, regulatory aspects, initial requirements from the BMS point of view, and the development of risk and economic feasibility assessments (LCCA), for which it collects and works with information on raw materials, the processing and manufacturing of the components of this type of batteries, their integration, pack manufacturing, and the analysis of other process protocols, in order to compare them with the current regulatory aspects.
